Toto- “Never Enough” from Kingdom of Desire (1992)

Co-written with Fee Waybill, “Never Enough” is a hard-rocking riff-fest that never reaches the expected heights. That's not to imply there are no moments of musical joy here.

Steve Lukather’s lead vocals sound as if they were recorded in one take, meant to emulate David Lee Roth. The intro guitar riffs also remind me of Van Halen. It's doubtful VH would use organ and synthesizer as it's used here, and Lenny Castro’s percussion break is as delightful as anything on Kingdom Of Desire. The last 1:30 of the song, with the powerful rhythm section, horn passages, and guitar and bass percussion breakdown, elevates “Never Enough” to more than filler status.
